Yoga Mummies

Postnatal Yoga classes specifically designed to help you regain your core-strength, your figure and overall fitness after birth by restoring tone to the deep muscles of the pelvis and lower back.  The classes include stretches, breathing and relaxation with postures to gently and gradually help mothers to regain physical strength, tone muscles and enjoy deep relaxation.  Yoga can help provide a powerful system of holistic healing in the postnatal period, providing physical and emotional support.  We focus on stabilising and strengthening, and also work to help provide relief from the stiff neck and shoulders that are often experienced after birth.

‘Steps to postnatal recovery’ can be started at any time after birth. They are easy and can be done in bed or on a carpet in a few minutes daily. Each step ‘closes’ the body and re-knits abdominal muscles using yoga breathing, with the additional effect of inducing deeper sleep and reducing postnatal fatigue.

We will look at specific practices that can help with diastasis recti, and that can help improve pelvic floor function.

Rather than aiming to get back to pre-pregnancy exercise routines as early as possible, I invite mothers to create a new foundation for better fitness while being energised from within. More dynamic yoga poses and moves are also offered to make a safe transition to general yoga or other forms of exercise with long term benefits for women’s health.

Classes are suitable from 6 weeks after a vaginal delivery or 12 weeks after a caesarean section.

Babies are welcome to classes with their mother.

All classes will conclude with time for tea and chat with other mothers.
