Over five weeks you'll be guided, step by step, through the foundations of the Ashtanga Yoga method in a small, supportive group of just six people. Keeping the group this small means I can really get to know each person and offer the kind of individual guidance that's rarely possible in regular classes. Your practice will be adapted to your body, your experience, and your goals from the very beginning, so you leave with a practice that's truly your own.

Rather than trying to keep up in a large class, you'll learn in the traditional Mysore-style approach, where everyone practices at their own pace while receiving one-to-one instruction within the group. By the end of the course you'll have begun to develop your own personalised practice, one you can continue to build with confidence for years to come.

The course is taught by an experienced Ashtanga yoga teacher with a long-established personal Ashtanga practice, who also assists regularly at Ashtanga Yoga Edinburgh. You'll benefit from traditional teaching, individual attention, and ongoing support as you begin your journey.

Suitable for

  • Complete beginners to yoga.

  • Anyone new to Ashtanga Yoga.

  • Yoga practitioners who would like to move from led classes towards a Mysore-style practice.

No previous experience of Ashtanga Yoga is needed. All bodies, ages and levels of experience are warmly welcomed.

During the course you'll receive

  • An introduction to the Ashtanga Yoga method and its traditions.

  • Breathing practices to support your movement and focus.

  • Detailed guidance through Surya Namaskar and the fundamental standing postures.

  • A personalised practice built specifically for you.

  • Plenty of time to ask questions.

  • Email support between classes.

  • Access to online recorded content to support your learning at home.

If you miss a session, I'm happy to arrange a make-up class within the five-week course where possible.

What to bring

Your yoga mat, a bottle of water, and anything else you need to feel comfortable.

I have never tried yoga before and joining this block of classes has been a fantastic experience, I am now looking forward to joining weekly classes and would absolutely recommend anyone to try out these classes with Warm Hearts Yoga.

4 Week Ashtanga Yoga Trial

If the beginners courses are fully booked or the dates don’t quite work for you, the 4-week Intro Pass lets you try things out. It’s designed to help you get a feel for Ashtanga, try out my teaching, and build confidence while you wait for the next full course. This pass gives you up to four weeks of classes so you can try things out at your own pace before committing to a regular class.

Please note:
This Intro Pass is a taster option for new students and doesn’t include the structured, step-by-step learning you’ll receive in the beginners courses. If you prefer a guided programme with weekly progression and personalised support, one of the beginners courses will be a better fit.

What is Ashtanga Yoga?

Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic and structured style of yoga that follows a set sequence of postures, linking breath with movement to create a flowing and meditative practice.

Unlike Hatha Yoga, where postures are typically held for longer periods, Ashtanga follows a continuous flow, making it physically engaging and deeply transformative.

The practice is progressive—meaning that as you build strength, flexibility, and understanding, more advanced postures can be introduced.

While it is known for being challenging, Ashtanga is also incredibly adaptable. Modifications and variations allow you to work at your own pace, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners alike.

Mysore-style Ashtanga yoga is a traditional method that enables students to learn at their own pace with personalised guidance from the teacher. This approach fosters confidence and independence, accommodating all skill levels, bodies, and experiences, in one class.
