What is Ashtanga Yoga?

Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic and structured style of yoga that follows a set sequence of postures, linking breath with movement to create a flowing and meditative practice.

Unlike Hatha Yoga, where postures are typically held for longer periods, Ashtanga follows a continuous flow, making it physically engaging and deeply transformative.

The practice is progressive—meaning that as you build strength, flexibility, and understanding, more advanced postures can be introduced.

If you’ve ever wanted to learn more complex asanas like arm balances, deep backbends, or inversions, Ashtanga provides a structured path to help you achieve them over time.

While it is known for being challenging, Ashtanga is also incredibly adaptable. Modifications and variations allow you to work at your own pace, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners alike.

Practice Mysore-style Ashtanga Yoga with me.

Mysore-style Ashtanga yoga is a traditional method that enables students to learn at their own pace with personalised guidance from the teacher. This approach fosters confidence and independence, accommodating all skill levels in one class.

Beginners can master basics while advanced students delve deeper, all without the pressure of a fast-paced group, allowing each individual to progress at their own rhythm with support as needed.

  • I loved Mysore yoga. I’m already spreading the word, it makes so much sense for me not to be constrained by a class flow (occasionally) and have individual input and a chance to talk through poses. It’s just fantastic and flexible.

  • It's amazing how my practice has transformed these last few weeks that I attend Sarah's Mysore yoga classes. I love Ashtanga and Mysore is really the best way to tailor my practice to my own pace and abilities. Sarah is always there to provide support, guidance and adjustments. It's the highlight of my week!

  • ... the Mysore style is great for so many things: revisiting the basics, adding in more advanced poses at my own pace, and paying attention to areas of my body that require more time than a regular led class can allow for. Sarah provides personalised suggestions and adjustments to help you figure out what you need to do in your practice. It’s a space in which we all may be working on different poses in the series, breathing in one room together, and taking time out after a busy week.

  • I’m really enjoying it! I find watching the women who are more experienced really helpful and inspiring, but also feels good to be able to go at my own pace, just do what I can do, and get individual help from you.
