Do you struggle to work out how to practice at home? Wonder which postures to include when time is limited? How can you work on your bigger poses without ending up exhausted for the rest of the day? If so, this workshop is for you.
Most of us don’t have the time or energy to practice a full Ashtanga series every day, but that doesn’t mean you can’t build a strong, effective, and transformative yoga practice.
In this 90-minute workshop we’ll explore how to practice when time is short, keeping the structure, energy, flow, and benefits of Ashtanga yoga without needing 90 minutes on the mat. You’ll learn how to build a practice that is supportive and sustainable, disciplined and consistent, without becoming overwhelming.
We’ll look at:
Creating yoga practices from 10 to 60 minutes that fit into daily life
Adapting your practice for different days, while still practising “everything”
Intelligent sequencing, which postures to choose for a well-rounded practice
Ways to save time and energy when practice time is precious
How to build a consistent routine
How much is enough?
Trusting yourself and taking charge of your own practice
You’ll be provided with handouts to take away, including some of my own short sequences, along with clear guidance on how to create practice sequences that work for you.
Sunday 22nd March
10.00–11.30am
St Leonard’s Church Hall, St Andrews
or online via Zoom
Anyone signing up to join online will receive a link to access a recording of the workshop within 24 hours.
The Yoga Teacher's Circle is a chance to connect with other teachers, share ideas and inspiration, deepen your knowledge with relevant CPD, and become a part of a supportive community. This special workshop brings Lorraine Close, outreach director of Edinburgh Community Yoga, to the circle to deliver 3 hours CPD on how to use a trauma informed approach in your yoga classes.
This 3 hour workshop you will develop an understanding of the basic principles of facilitating yoga classes in a trauma informed way. This is important in all yoga settings as we do not know who might turn up in our yoga classes and we know that trauma is an almost ubiquitous human experience. We can consider trauma informed practice to be people informed practice and this is an important part of being a yoga teacher that is not always understood.
Location: Hot House Yoga, Slotline House, St Andrews
Time: 12:30 - 15:30
Cost: £100
If the cost of attending this workshop is a genuine barrier, Lorraine is happy to offer 3 spaces at the reduced price of £60. To take one of these subsidised places please use the discount code TRAUMAINFORMEDSUB at checkout.
Sunday April 19th 2026 - Trauma Informed Teaching
Discuss the fact that trauma is ubiquitous in the human experience
Describe briefly the impact of trauma can have on the brain and body
Consider how regular yoga spaces can be re-traumatising or triggering for some people
Develop skills in using language and class delivery that are more trauma informed
To explore the history of cult dynamics and power abuse in yoga and how that has overtly and subtly contributes to inaccessibility and exclusion for some people
To understand ways in which yoga teachers intentionally and unintentionally abuse power
Trauma informed language helps to create a practice that is empowering, and that centres the student at the core of the experience, making sure they feel truly in charge of their own experience.
Please note: This workshop is not in depth enough for you to call yourself a trauma informed teacher or therapist. It is designed to help you make your regular yoga classes more trauma informed- not to give you the skills to work specifically with people who have C-PTSD
Lorraine is the outreach director of Edinburgh Community Yoga, a not for profit social enterprise offering trauma informed yoga programming in and around Edinburgh.
She has extensive training in trauma informed practice and yoga for mental health, runs training and CPD for yoga teachers and teacher training, mentors outreach teachers around the country and lectures in Nursing at the University of Edinburgh where she is leading a research team exploring trauma informed yoga on social prescription.

Have you been practicing Ashtanga yoga for a while and wonder what comes next? Want to explore beyond the primary series? The Ashtanga Intermediate series offers a different energy, new challenges, and a brand new set of postures to explore.
In this workshop we will start to explore this series step by step. Looking at the overall sequence and discussing the different sections and how they work together. Talking through why intermediate series feels so different to practice than primary. Highlighting key postures and linking them back to primary series.
Let’s remove some of the fear and mystery, and break down this series into approachable steps. Find your confidence as you step into something new.
This workshop is suitable for anyone with an established yoga practice. You don’t need to be able to ‘do’ every posture in primary series comfortably, but should feel comfortable moving through a primary series class.
